My mobile game startup was acquired by iCandy. Ask me anything!

The live session for this AMA session is now over. Big thank you to Gerald, as well as the community for the interesting dialogue!
What’s up TIA peeps!
I’m Gerald Tock, an entrepreneur/ecosystem builder based in Singapore.
I’m currently COO (Strategy and Partnerships) at mobile game company iCandy Interactive, where we are seeking to consolidate the best game companies within Southeast Asia, while connecting them with key markets globally. (My company, Inzen, was acquired by iCandy in Apr 2017). At a group level, I’m responsible for investments and acquisitions, while maintaining my operating function at Inzen.
iCandy’s strength is in developing and publishing action-oriented casual games and you can see that from some of the top games within our portfolio. These include Crab War(Appxplore), Alien Path(Appxplore), Dark Dot(Inzen) and Star Tap(Inzen), which have collectively garnered more than 18million downloads.
I’ve been in the games industry since 2004 and have worked across various ecosystems, from startups, to government organisations, and heading operations for state-backed ecosystem catalysts. My active networks span across Southeast Asia, China and Australia.
My favourite games over the last year or so have been Score Hero (Mobile), This War of Mine (PC) and Democracy 3 (PC)
I also work with my wife, Audrey, to promote a more sustainable and equitable society through her company, Angels of Impact, which supports social enterprises working on poverty alleviation, to grow into sustainable businesses.
Feel free to ask me anything, here are some points to get you started:
- Company building
- Company positioning
- Identifying stakeholders (including investors), bringing them on and working effectively with them
- Building teams
Here are some fun/personal questions you can ask too:
- My personal mission
- My daily practice/routine
- Learning from and being constructive about challenges
- How to skate pools and bowls
- Maintaining your fitness(and energy) in your late 30s
- How to “split a body in Toribash with mid-section kick“
Ask me anything!
