LocalBrand Online Mall Launches, Providing a Cat-Walk for Indonesian Fashion Designers

After a beta rollout on August 17, now LocalBrand.co.id has officially launched, with a very apt cat-walk fashion show event (pictured below). LocalBrand is an online mall that focuses on high-fashion clothing. There are lots of e-commerce sites in Indonesia, but what differentiates LocalBrand from the others is that it only sells authentic fashion items made in Indonesia.

In recent years, a great many young and bright Indonesian designers emerged and entered the industry, trying to take sales away from the usual global luxury brands. Indonesia has lots of local fashion brands now, yet these are still in their infancy, so it takes more than quality and uniqueness to be sustainable.

That is one of the reasons why LocalBrand was created: to facilitate these new brands and provide them with with an accessible marketplace. They are names like Lashka, and House of Vai, which could become well-known in future. They’ll gain more exposure – and sales – as LocalBrand.co.id gets more well known. LocalBrand aims to be the biggest online shopping platform for local fashion products in Indonesia.

42 brands have joined so far and more are coming through, LocalBrand has also launched its first e-magazine to the public. A promotional sale is being held for two weeks with discounts starting from 20 percent. Exciting new features are also being prepared. As for payments, they are ready to accept most common banks in Indonesia; PayPal and credit cards will be supported at a later date. With international shipping also enabled, LocalBrand won’t be just for Indonesians.

We all know about GantiBaju’s success with combining fashion and national flavours, and it is interesting to see if LocalBrand’s strategy will pay off as well. It certainly satisfied Project Eden’s board, who rated this new site in the top five at the recent #StartupLokal meetup. First, LocalBrand has to gain traction – and fast – so that the brands inside the mall can get more exposure. Once more customers are attracted and became loyal to the site, then they will keep coming back for sure. What do you think about LocalBrand – will you shop there?
