Baidu Partners With Huashu, Aims For Chinese TV Viewers

baidu-search-on-tv

Baidu, the largest search engine in China, has partnered with Huashu Media to develop products to put its search engine in Chinese television sets, according to a Reuters report.

The partnership will bring Baidu products to more users via their TV, across 100 cities in China. Simply put, this partnership sounds a lot like Google TV. Baidu will also likely bring its box computing concept over to the TV. For now, details of the “digital product” isn’t elaborated on in the report. One thing for sure, the partnership has the potential to convert TV users to active Internet (or I should say, Baidu) users.

The Chinese search engine has been actively seeking to expand its portfolio. Over the last couple of weeks, Baidu’s major milestones include an a whopping $306 million investment in travel portal Qunar, a partnership with Microsoft’s Bing to power its English search results, and a desktop PC app for Qiyi.com, it’s Hulu-esque video-on-demand site.
