EastSouthWestNorth is reporting on a grim story that emerged on Sina Weibo, as an individual posted what appeared to be pictures of his own cut wrists. Many netizens came forward with comments asking him to reconsider and seek medical assistance:
“I hope that this stranger was misguided for that one moment. Please think about how your family and friends will be crying in sorrow!”
But at the same time, some expressed doubts that this might be all a show:
“Why is the blood flowing like that? The second photo invokes our skepticism. I have been worked in the emergency department before and this is no[t] how blood flows.”
Police were contacted, but there is no word yet on whether the man is ok or not. Here’s the link to the original ESWN story, including the pictures (warning, they’re graphic).
As with any platform where users can self-publish, microblogs have seen these problems before. Last year a South Korean man killed himself after posting a suicide note on Twitter.
