Since last month’s massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Japan, people from around the world have sent countless messages and prayers of hope and support for the people there. Many of these messages are in English though, and not readable by many in Japan.
But now thanks to Google, people who speak any any language can send their messages for the disaster victims via the Message for Japan website. See how it works in this touching video on YouTube:
The website can automatically translate any message from the people into Japanese. This is made possible by the Google Translate API. People can also see all the messages in a stream or bubble view and track the source of the messages in a world map view.
As disaster relief and the rebuilding effort are still ongoing, donations are still very much needed. Message for Japan provides links to some organizations which are working on the efforts, including Japanese Red Cross Society, JCIE, Save the Children, International Medical Corps, Give2Asia and GlobalGiving.
