Just a couple of months back, we excitedly reported that amongst other encouraging statistics, total seed funding in India skyrocketed more than sixfold, from US$15 million in 2014 to an expected US$100 million in 2015. It is crystal clear that investors see a great deal of potential in the Indian startup ecosystem – perhaps the same amount of potential they saw in China 10 years ago – and are keeping a close watch on its development. There is so much we can all do to strengthen the infrastructure and resources available to budding startups. And this means a multitude of market and collaboration opportunities.
Today, we are happy to officially announce our expansion into India. We have been covering the Indian startup scene for two years, and the last few months were spent on doing firsthand market research. Now, we’re confident that there is a place for us to serve and build the startup ecosystem of one of Asia’s most promising markets. Our initial team of editorial, business development, and events staff are already at work.
Key players and influencers in Bangalore told us about a demand for greater depth in startup coverage. We were told about the knowledge gaps that exist both within the ecosystem, as well as for outsiders seeking to better understand this market. To address this need, we now have a six full-time journalists based across India, bringing you detailed editorial content from South Asia. Expect the latest news, detailed analysis, commentaries, and fun infographics – our team will be working hard to deliver an optimal mix of content to keep you up to speed with everything you should know about India and South Asia.
We’re especially excited to announce that we will be bringing our conference series to Bangalore! The first-ever Tech in Asia Bangalore 2016 promises all of our best conference staples – Asia-centric, domestically-focused, and locally relevant. Multiple content stages, Bootstrap Alley exhibition areas for startups, and Startup-Investor Speed Dating to meet with investors, are just three out of the many features to look forward to. We’re expecting a total of 100 startups, exhibiting to 1,000 attendees over two days – 20 percent of whom are expected to be investors. So mark your calendars for July 6 and 7, 2016, find out more about the conference or start applying to exhibit here.
We are here to connect India to the world, and the world to India. No company right now is focused on facilitating that, and we are committed to doing so. As we have done in Singapore, Jakarta and Tokyo, we will be working hard to bring the community closer together online, while helping to connect the ecosystem offline. We will run alongside you, cry with you, and cheer for you.
