10 things to remember when attending a gaming and eSports event

Asia is such an economically diverse region that gaming and eSports events may range from star-studded high production value eSports fiestas to simple gatherings in one corner of a gaming studio. However, regardless of where you are or how long you have been attending events and conventions for, there are some things you have to always keep in mind.

Namely, not being smelly and thinking about other event-goers.

1. Learn what the event is about

Just because it says eSports doesn’t mean it will have teams and matches. Just because it’s a mall event doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to come in cosplay. Just because it has games doesn’t mean it has a particular game you’re looking for. Spare yourself from being disappointed by looking up and asking what the event is about.

2. Find out when things are going to happen

Can’t afford to attend all days of the event? No sense missing out on the best, though. Event organizers usually have a schedule of activities up somewhere, and even if they don’t, it doesn’t hurt to ask. Figure out which day is best for you to attend based on the games you’d like to watch or the personalities you’d like to meet. The event schedule also gives you a good idea of when to leave the event venue for lunch or snacks.

There are times when you don’t need chairs. And that’s okay.

3. Take a bath and brush your teeth

Your hygiene is none of our business unless it’s waging a war against our noses and consciousness. You don’t have to come smelling like flowers in May, but don’t strut around smelling like nerve gas.

4. Wear something comfortable

If there isn’t a cosplay segment or if you haven’t been invited to cosplay or make a celebrity kind of appearance, then it’s probably not a good idea for you to doll up, fix your hair to the max, and wear five-inch heels. Gaming events are usually full of people, and some even get so crowded that people have to sit on the floor. They can also get difficult to navigate because of the crowd. Do reconsider the next time you’re tempted to attend a gaming event wearing a teensy glittering tube dress with stockings and six-inch high heels; it’s definitely no stroll down a catwalk.
