OpenAI, Oracle to build Texas AI data center with Nvidia chips

OpenAI and Oracle Corp. are set to equip a new data center in Abilene, Texas, with thousands of Nvidia AI chips.

This initiative is part of their US$100 billion Stargate infrastructure project, which aims to boost computing resources for advanced AI models.

The companies plan to install 64,000 Nvidia GB200 semiconductors at the Abilene facility by late 2026.

An initial 16,000 chips are expected to be operational by this summer.

This data center is the first facility of the Stargate initiative, which was announced earlier this year in collaboration with Oracle and SoftBank Group.
