Meta to challenge India’s antitrust ruling on WhatsApp
Meta Platforms plans to contest an order from India’s Competition Commission, which restricts WhatsApp from sharing user data with Meta-owned apps and enforces an antitrust fine of US$25.4 million.
The commission’s directive came on Monday, requiring WhatsApp to halt data sharing for five years.
This action follows the CCI’s March 2021 investigation into WhatsApp’s data practices, triggered by global criticism of Meta’s privacy policies.
A Meta spokesperson said their 2021 policy did not alter user message privacy or account functionality.
