Google’s Wiz deal may revive Israel’s housing sector
Real estate developers in Israel are anticipating a potential boost from bonuses awarded to 1,800 employees of Wiz, following Google’s US$32 billion acquisition of the cybersecurity firm.
This influx of funds could stimulate the housing market, which has experienced declining transaction volumes in recent years.
In 2024, approximately 100,000 apartment transactions were recorded, an increase compared to the previous year. However, this figure remains 6.4% lower than in 2022 and marks a 33% drop from the peak of 151,000 transactions in 2021.
This decline has been influenced by rising interest rates and the security crisis on October 7. Past trends, particularly during the tech boom of 2020–2021, indicate a correlation between high-tech sector activity and real estate market performance. This correlation is evidenced by increased state revenues from real estate taxes during that time.
