Google removes DEI terms from AI ethics webpage
Google has updated the webpage for its Responsible AI and Human Centered Technology (RAI-HCT) team, removing mentions of “diversity,” “equity,” and “marginalized communities.”
The page previously focused on underrepresented groups but now uses broader terms like “varied” and “numerous.”
The changes were first noted by The Midas Project, and Google has not yet responded to inquiries.
This update follows Google’s February decision to review its DEI programs and cancel diversity hiring targets.
Other tech giants, including Amazon, Meta, and OpenAI, have also scaled back DEI initiatives. Meanwhile, Apple recently opposed a shareholder proposal to eliminate its DEI programs.
These cutbacks come amid growing scrutiny from the Trump administration, which has criticized such efforts.
