Google partners with Taiwan-based firm for next-genAI chips
Google is reportedly set to collaborate with Taiwan’s MediaTek to develop next-generation Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), with production expected next year.
Despite this partnership, Google continues working with Broadcom on AI chips and has not ended its relationship with the company.
Google chose MediaTek partly due to its strong ties with TSMC and lower costs compared to Broadcom. The TPUs will serve internal R&D and Cloud clients.
Last year, Google introduced its sixth-gen TPU to expand AI chip options, reportedly spending US$6-US$9 billion on TPUs in 2024.
