Google lifts ban on AI weapons, surveillance in guidelines

On Feb. 5, Google has updated its AI Principles, removing a previous pledge to avoid using AI for harmful applications like weapons and surveillance.

The company no longer lists commitments to avoid technologies that cause harm or violate international norms on its AI Principles webpage.

Google will now evaluate AI projects based on whether the benefits outweigh the risks, while aligning with international law and human rights.
