Apple to invest $100m in ID to tackle iPhone ban: gov’t
Apple is planning a US$100 million investment to establish a manufacturing plant in Indonesia, according to Indonesia’s government.
This proposal aims to address component localization requirements following a sales ban on the iPhone 16.
Indonesia requires smartphones sold in the country to have at least 40% of parts sourced locally.
Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, a spokesperson for the trade ministry, has confirmed that discussions regarding Apple’s proposed plant in West Java are set for Thursday.
The country has previously banned sales of smartphones from other companies, including Alphabet, over similar localization issues.
