Influential Blogger Promotes MM Lee’s Facebook Page, Beats Nicole Seah’s

We last reported that young politician Nicole Seah overtook Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew to become Singapore’s most popular politician on Facebook. However, within 24 hours that has already become history, at least for now. Influential Singaporean blogger, Wendy Cheng, better known as Xiaxue got annoyed that Singaporeans are giving Seah more support than MM Lee on Facebook. In response, Xiaxue wrote a blog post to help boost the ‘like counts’ on MM Lee’s Facebook page.

In her blog post, she took time to explain why MM Lee deserves more respect and ‘likes.’ She gave credits to MM Lee and his team for Singapore’s success including safety, education, and being the number one most uncorrupted country in the world. In contrast, she named Seah as “an advertising chick who has not done anything for Singapore.”

As we have written before, Seah’s popularity on Facebook is boosted by a good story (youngest candidate) coupled with a proper social media strategy. It has proven nothing in actual work except that she and her new media team are probably expert in using social platforms to spread their words and gather support. From the communications point of view, we got to give Seah and her team a pat on the back.

The Internet has played a major role for this Singapore General Election and we’re as excited as you are to witness how influence via the Internet co-relates (if any) with the actual voting results.
