YunBiJi: China’s Cutest Cloud-Based Notebook App

The Guangzhou-based software-development company Fun Input has just launched perhaps the cutest-looking Evernote-style notes app, called YunBiJi. Meaning ‘Cloud Notebook’ in Chinese, it neatly describes what this is. There are brand-new apps for iPhone and Android, with desktop versions for Windows and Mac in the works; in the meantime, the web app is already up and running so you can access your notes on your computer as well.

YunBiJi can be used to write notes and lists, and can incorporate images and photos as well. Anything created in the mobile apps syncs in the cloud to the web app, or across mobile platforms.

Needless to say, there are already some bigger players in this space, making it a challenge for a smaller indie company like Fun Input. One of the biggest is Shanda’s (NASDAQ:SNDA) Maiku – coming from China’s leading cloud-oriented service provider.

It’s nice to see an Evernote-style service that doesn’t copy the exact look and feel of the successful American start-up, but instead has an original and fresh design. The YunBiJi cloud service is covered by the same login as other apps from Fun Input, such as the iPad hand-drawing app FIT Paper and the long-form text-editor app, FIT Writer.

The company behind this new cloud service can’t be called a start-up since it has already been around for years, and will be familiar to many Chinese geeks from their Fun Input Toy IME app for Mac, which I’d rate as the best way to write Chinese on OS X. Check out the YunBiJi site for more information and mobile downloads.
