YouTrip reports major service outage, most operations down

YouTrip, a Singapore-headquartered fintech firm, reported a major service outage that affected most of its services as at noon on October 19.

Of the 19 operations included in its online tracking system, only four were functional: login, view card details, sign up, and e-SIM. Other operations, including the in-app exchange, wallet balance and digital wallet, were indicated to be undergoing a “major outage.”

“We’re aware of the ongoing service disruption and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” YouTrip said in response to queries from The Business Times.

“Our team is working to resolve the technical issues as quickly as possible. We would like to assure all users that their funds and accounts are safe.”

Later, by around 12:45 p.m. Singapore time, the multicurrency e-wallet had altered its online tracking system to indicate that the operations were undergoing “service degradation.” The same services remained unavailable.

On its Facebook account, YouTrip said at 11:00 a.m. that the app was experiencing “some technical difficulties.”

“You may find service degradation in using the card for payments and other services, including ATM withdrawals,” it stated.

At around the same time, a Facebook user commented that despite transferring money into YouTrip two hours earlier, it was still showing a pending status.

He added that he had attempted to pay with the card, but it was not going through.

Services in Thailand were also hit by the outage, with only three of 14 tracked services listed as operational.

At YouTrip Australia, all services remained operational.

YouTrip has been steadily expanding its operations across markets. The Business Times reported in August that the firm has around 150 employees in the city-state and is looking to expand its headcount by at least 10 per cent by the end of the year.
