Just after we posted how Yahoo will celebrate Indonesia Independence Day, Yahoo Indonesia released a brand new product called Yahoo Post. It’s a social search-based product with community features for content discovery. Unveiled on its beta stage, it’s a new way of sharing knowledge with others on the Internet while combining keyword search with community-based content discovery.
Yahoo Post is also open to everyone, and you will only need a Yahoo username to create a new topic or participate in existing discussions based on the content’s keyword. It even includes some elements of role-playing games, as active members contributing to the posts will “level up” to higher levels ranging from contributor to voter and even moderator (a moderator is elected by voters).
Here are some of the features that Yahoo Post provides:
- Community-based search – Combining keyword search with community features for content discovery, Yahoo Post Beta provides users an easier and more engaging way to stay informed and share knowledge with the world about things they are interested in
- Social groupings by keyword – It starts with a keyword. By leveraging the keywords searched by users, a wide range of users with common interests can be grouped together for discussions.
- User levels and RPG-like “leveling up” – Yahoo Post Beta has three levels to encourage user engagement (contributor, voter, moderator).
Yahoo Post is an exciting new product experiment, but we’ll have to wait and see whether it can catch on with users. So far, Yahoo Post has gone live in Hong Kong and Korea, which makes Indonesia its third country. Yahoo has done well building communities in Indonesia before (see Yahoo Koprol), so I wouldn’t be surprised if Post does well too. Stay tuned for more.
