Xpeng targets up to 600,000 vehicle sales in 2026
Xpeng, a Chinese EV maker backed by Volkswagen, is aiming to sell between 550,000 and 600,000 vehicles in 2026, according to a report by Chinese tech portal 36Kr.
The reported target represents a 28% to 40% rise from the 429,445 cars Xpeng sold in 2025.
Earlier this month, Xpeng said it would focus more on developing “physical AI” technologies, including robotaxis and human robots, with street trials and production planned for 2026.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Xpeng 2026 outlook
- Reaching 550,000 to 600,000 units in 2026 needs 45,800 to 50,000 a month 1. The roadmap has seven models 1. Four are SUVs, the G01 luxury 6-seater and the G02 full-size flagship, plus two Mona SUVs 1.
- Mona M03, a pure-electric model, made up nearly 25% of 2025 sales 2. Extended-range trims undercut battery electrics by 50,000 yuan while keeping 5C fast-charging (a very high charging rate that shortens charging time) 2.
- Overseas volume would double in 2026 from 45,008 units in 2025, or 10% of total, and the footprint spans 60 countries and regions 13. Site capacity and tariff plans for China exports remain undisclosed.
AV infrastructure plays for 2026 pilots
- Xpeng is prepping public road robotaxi tests with VLA 2.0, its in-house stack 3. Pony.ai targets 3,000 robotaxis worldwide by end-2026 4.
- Focus on HD mapping and V2X systems. Sell simulation platforms (virtual testing tools) and safety operations staffing (remote safety drivers and field support). Offer teleoperation services (remote assistance/control) and AV insurance. Target cities with 2026 robotaxi pilot permits. Baidu’s Apollo Go runs in dozens of Chinese cities with millions of rides 5.
- London is a near-term opening as Baidu teams with Uber and Lyft for first-half 2026 trials 6. Fleets start in the dozens then scale to hundreds 5. The UK is moving on pilot frameworks for autonomous buses and taxis from spring 2026 5, opening demand for safety monitoring and congestion tools.
