Xiaomi’s launch event in Beijing this afternoon focused on two things – the MIUI 7 update for its Android skin, and the refreshed Redmi Note 2 alongside a Redmi Note 2 Prime. The duo comes with a choice of five colors.
Like the original Redmi Note, the Redmi Note 2 sports a 5.5-inch screen, making it a bit bigger than the normal Redmi phone.

- Redmi Note 2 Prime has its processor clocked a little faster – at 2.2GHz

- 13MP rear camera; 5MP front camera
- 3060mAh battery
- Weighs 160 grams
- Runs MIUI 7, based on Android 5.1
The Redmi Note 2 Prime comes with 32GB of storage and so it costs a bit more – RMB 999 (US$155). The regular Redmi Note 2 starts at RMB 799 (US$125) for the TDD-LTE and TD-SCDMA version, or RMB 899 (US$140) for the TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE one. These go on sale August 16 in mainland China; no word yet on any other markets.
