Xiaomi’s VP Hugo Barra flew in to Indonesia’s capital city of Jakarta yesterday. The occassion? Launching the Redmi Note in the country. The smartphone touts a 5.5-inch 1280x720p HD IPS display, octa-core 1.7GHz MediaTek processors, 2GB RAM, Mali-450 GPU, 3,100mAh battery, 13MP back camera, and 5MP front camera.
It is sold at Rp 2 million (US$164), a bit more expensive than the S$200 (US$154) and RM510(US$152) price tags in neighboring countries Singapore and Malaysia. Xiaomi will sell the Redmi Note in Indonesia through online flash sales on Lazada Indonesia starting November 13.
Xiaomi also announced that they will not sell the Mi 3 in Indonesia due to the long and winding permit issue. So Indonesians can expect to see Xiaomi’s flagship phone Mi 4 soon.

Those who have purchased the Mi 3 from other countries will need to wait a bit longer if they want to make hardware repairs, because Xiaomi doesn’t provide the phone’s spare parts in Indonesia. Currently Xiaomi has 17 service centers in the archipelago, and the company expects to add more of it in the coming years.
So far, Xiaomi has sold 85,000 Redmi 1S units through Lazada flash sales in less than two months. Redmi Note’s toughest rival in Indonesia may be the new player Himax Polymer (see our review here). The Polymer comes in with almost identical pricing and specifications, but has a smaller screen and less battery capacity.
