Melbourne-Based AngelCube Reveals 7 Startups for its 2013 Intake

AngelCube LogoAfter the success of AngelCube’s previous graduate startups – like wi-fi light bulb developers LIFX and HTML5 marketing tool App.io who raised $1.075 million earlier this week – the Melbourne seed accelerator today announced the seven teams that will be joining its 2013 intake.

And this year, AngelCube has gone pretty international, with founders from Chile, Portugal, and neighbouring New Zealand. Filtered right down from over 150 applications, now let’s introduce the magnificent seven:

  1. BattleTrip: This works in three steps: You describe your trip (where, when, and what kind of trip you would like to have). Based on the criteria set, real travel bloggers and writers will pitch holiday itineraries to you. Then choose your favorite one and receive a more detailed itinerary. The price depends on how complex your plan is, starting from A$29 ($28) for a short getaway to A$119 ($115) for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience.
  2. c8apps: As the name suggests, the company creates apps – more particularly, fantasy sports apps that leverage on social networks. At present it has three games: Footy Coach, BigFooty Coach, and Rugby Coach. I’d like to think that they’ll be creating games slightly better catered to the female audience soon.
  3. CoinJar: This startup aims to bridge the divide between digital currency and money for both businesses and consumers, reconciling Bitcoins with dollars in users’ bank accounts.
  4. eTaskr: This marketplace solves the underutilization of resources within enterprises and to improve organizational productivity. The startup says that such inefficiencies are a A$305 billion drain on the Australian economy.
  5. LifeGym: Actually, I might need this. This is an app that makes sure you commit to your gym habits by rewarding you with make-up, spa treatments, and personal trainer sessions at your gym when you stick to your routine. They also offer to put together a workout plan personalized for you to follow. I like this!
  6. Ozirig: Also a marketplace, this connects wholesalers to photography professionals and vice versa.
  7. Tablo Publishing: I have to admit, I am entirely seduced by the interface of this eBook publishing platform. Catered for writers and bloggers, it allows them to build eBooks in the cloud, publish and manage books with the ‘author’s centre’ (Tablo’s dashboard), and easily publish to the Apple iBookstore in just one click.

For this year’s class of intake, AngelCube aims to have a larger focus on targeted mentoring. Every week over the the entire three-month program, startups will have intensive mentoring sessions with members from its extended mentor network.
