Some years ago, one of my friends went to Israel for his university’s exchange program. At the time, I thought it was a strange choice, as most people would have jumped at the opportunity to go somewhere a little bit more “glamorous” like Europe. I did a little digging, and Israel quickly made its way up my list of countries to visit. With vast natural landscapes and intriguing historical sites, it definitely piqued my interest.

Besides potential tourists such as myself, the country has also drawn the attention of top investors around the world. Today’s story takes a look at some of the most active investors in Israel’s startups, including the likes of Singtel, Intel, and Dell.

Getting support from top investors around the world is no easy task, but Israel’s startups have been hard at work. While most investors come from Israel itself, firms based in the US, Korea, and Singapore have also secured deals in the country as well.

• Leading the pack: Topping the list of investors is US-based private equity and venture capital firm Insight Partners. Over the last two years, it has closed a total of 18 deals in Israel, including its investments in firms such as robotics company Blue White Robotics, video-editing app Lightricks, and enterprise software platform Juno Journey.

• Close friends: Investors based in the US appear to be the most heavily involved in Israel. Out of the 100 organizations listed, 44 of them come from the US. These include venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Battery Ventures, as well as Intel Capital, the investment arm of the Intel Corporation.

• The more the merrier: There are currently six investors that have inked at least 10 deals each in the last 24 months. These are (listed from most to least): Insight Partners, TLV Partners, OurCrowd, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Pitango Venture Capital, and the Viola Group. In total, these six firms have amassed 76 deals in Israel.
