American teenager killed by police for holding Wiimote

It’s definitely not our place to comment on gun laws and gun safety in the West, but as gamers, let’s share a moment of silence for 17 year old Christopher Roupe of Georgia, USA, who was killed by police when he answered the door holding on to a Wiimote.

Roupe was shot when he opened the door to police officers who had come to arrest his father under a probation violation warrant.

Police claim that the teenager had been pointing a gun at the officer at the door, though lawyers and witnesses say he was unarmed save for the Wiimote.

The same officer is reported to have broke down immediately once she realized what she had done. Roupe was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
