Stop the hype train! Korean MMORPG Tree of Savior has no publisher

There has been lots of excitement surrounding the upcoming Korean MMORPG Tree of Savior as it propels through its development, and constant developer updates aren’t doing anything to slow the hype train down.

Unfortunately, that train was derailed just an hour ago as the official Tree of Savior Facebook page put out the following announcement:

After questions and answers about TOS #10 was uploaded at our English Developers’ Blog, lots of foreign sites have shown their interest in our post. We really appreciate for your interest, but on a few of the articles that were published, there were some misinformation regarding our Korean publisher so we wish to correct the misinformation hereunder.

Our Korean publisher used to be Hangame, but both parties mutually agreed to nullify the contract last year.Therefore, our Korean publisher has not been decided yet[…]

Tree of Savior’s development is spearheaded by Kim Hakkyu, a man also known as the father of Gravity’s Ragnarok Online. It’s not a small game, and will definitely need a lot of back-end and customer support that a developer cannot provide on its own. Without a publisher even in its native country, it’s unlikely that Tree of Savior will ever get localized for the English-speaking market.

With international attention to Tree of Savior mounting and the game looking more and more polished, we can only hope that Kim and his team at IMC Games are starting the search for a new publisher as soon as they can.
