Cybersecurity Workshop by VNETWORK & Scantist on September 15th, 2023

SINGAPORE – 29 September 2023 – VNETWORK Joint Stock Company and Scantist Pte Ltd joined hands in a collaborative partnership to organize a workshop titled “Enhancing Cybersecurity by Bridging the Gap Between Shift-left and Shift-right Methodologies” on the 15th of September 2023. The event witnessed the active participation of more than 50 technology and cybersecurity experts hailing from prominent organizations in both Vietnam and Singapore.

The workshop served as an invaluable platform for participants to engage in fruitful exchanges of ideas, share best practices, and delve into the latest trends within the cybersecurity industry. Its primary focus lies on crucial subjects – such as the integration of shift-left and shift-right methodologies in cybersecurity – offering practical insights to safeguard digital ecosystems against emerging threats.

The Shift-Right and Shift-Left Conundrum

VNETWORK (a Vietnam-based company) specializes in the “Shift-Right” aspect of cybersecurity, with a particular focus on shielding against threats such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and Web Application Firewall (WAF) defenses. In contrast, Scantist (Singapore-based startup) zeroes in on the “Shift-Left” approach, addressing critical areas like application security. The significance of these two dimensions cannot be overstated, as they form the yin and yang of comprehensive cybersecurity.

Identifying the Gaps and Challenges

The workshop shed light on the persistent gaps, challenges, and communication barriers that often hamper the cohesive operation of these two vital cybersecurity facets. Imagine, for instance, that you are the CEO of an organization where both “shift-right” and “shift-left” cybersecurity measures are equally imperative. Ensuring these elements work in tandem is important and yes, it can prove to be an intricate puzzle.

The Log4j Attack: A Cautionary Tale

During the workshop, participants delved into the implications of the Log4j attack. This Java-based logging library vulnerability has sent shockwaves through the tech world, highlighting the dire consequences of unpatched vulnerabilities.

A key highlight of the workshop was the real-time demonstration of how a Log4j attack was detected within a network server and patched the vulnerability.

Right-Hand Security: Detecting Attacks on your WAF with VNETWORK

WAF is your first line of defense against malicious attacks targeting your web applications. We showcased how VNETWORK’s WAF solutions allow us to deploy advanced threat detection mechanisms that continuously monitor and provide in-depth analysis of incoming web traffic in real time. detection mechanisms that continuously monitor and analyze incoming web traffic. This real-time scrutiny is crucial in identifying even the most sophisticated attacks like Log4j. With VNETWORK’s WAF capabilities, we can swiftly detect, analyze, and respond to potential threats – safeguarding your online presence and protecting your business and customer data.

Left-Hand Security: Patching with Scantist

The next crucial step is to seamlessly integrate the Software Composition Analysis (SCA) tool into your development pipeline. Participants witnessed firsthand how Scantist’s capabilities in vulnerability assessment and patch management could be leveraged to mitigate the risks posed by Log4j and similar vulnerabilities. With the Scantist SCA platform, your DevSecOps teams will gain the ability to pinpoint and provide effective remediation and patching solutions.

Together, Shift-Right and Shift-Left security offer a unified front in the battle against modern cyber threats. By leveraging VNETWORK’s WAF expertise and Scantist SCA’s vulnerability patching capabilities, we provide a comprehensive shield for your digital assets. Organizations can now bolster their defenses, reduce vulnerabilities, and respond more effectively to emerging threats.
