Visualizing the sheer size of Sea Group
Charts and visuals, only for subscribers
Sea Group, Singapore’s homegrown internet giant, has a market valuation of over US$120 billion. But what does that really mean? As the above chart shows, Sea’s valuation is more than double all of Southeast Asia’s other unicorns – none of which have listed publicly yet – put together. This, however, could be due to the unusual exuberance of the stock market.
Even so, Sea’s valuation seems high when put together with other listed but non-tech firms, as this next chart shows.
Ultimately, though, Sea’s market value pales in comparison to China’s giants.
That’s not a slight on Sea. It’s a sign that Southeast Asia’s tech scene is nascent compared to China’s, indicating room for growth.
