Viki was founded in 2007 by Razmig Hovaghimian, Changseong Ho, and Jiwon Moon and was acquired by Rakuten for a reported US$200 million in 2013. Back in the day, it was one of the most successful exits in Southeast Asia, even at a time when M&As were hard to come by in the region.
Under Rakuten’s umbrella, Viki continues to grow. It now has more than 15 million subscribers globally and has one of the largest libraries of Korean video content. It’s alumni, both founders and team members, have gone on to contribute back to the startup community – either by investing or building startups or spreading their knowledge and know-how across Asia’s startup ecosystem.
