ShopBack, a Singapore-based shopping and rewards platform, has launched Campus, its new regional hub, in the city-state.

ShopBack said the Campus office “uses the school as a metaphor,” bridging business and continuous learning by “bringing employees back to the nostalgic days of their adolescence.”

Campus sits on an 88,000-square-foot plot of state property managed by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) in the Pasir Panjang area. The structure, which is a refurbished school building, is triple-tiered and occupies 27,000 square feet. Its new decor and name pay homage to the property’s history. This partnership with the SLA is an effort to repurpose vacant state buildings for the benefit of businesses and the community.

The modern assembly area will be used for town halls and afterwork events. Housing a ping pong table, long cafeteria-style desks, and bleacher-style step seats, the space was decorated with a collegiate aesthetic in mind.

The main area of the office, which features a collaborative community library with books donated by ShopBack employees, is meant to foster two of ShopBack’s eight core values: to be “always curious” and “better every day.”

The company said the office was designed with collaboration in mind. It has a Y-shaped seating arrangement.

The decor of meeting rooms maintains a bold but professional look. Inspired by schools, ShopBack’s new office space encourages employees to continue learning through the in-house workshops and talks by external speakers – both provided by the company.

With sofas and cushions placed throughout, the balance between work and play is evident in the company’s furnishings. ShopBack shares the ground floor of the building with content creator studio Third Space – the firm that helped produce ShopBack’s recent eight-birthday livestreams.

The snacking section consists of a bar-inspired area, with high stools and a communal table. Campus will house over 220 of ShopBack’s Singapore-based employees.

The launch follows the company’s entry into its tenth market, Hong Kong, through its acquisition of buy now, pay later platform Hoolah.

The company also recently established a data science research and development hub in Singapore under the Economic Development Board’s Innovation Development Scheme. This division has 50 staff, comprising data analysts, data scientists, machine learning engineers, UI/UX designers, and software engineers.

After launching ShopBack Pay and acquiring Hoolah, ShopBack intends to further expand its financial services capabilities. The company has hired over 300 people across its markets to support this expansion and is looking to make hires in compliance, payments, and engineering by the end of the year.
