Org Chart: The people running Bukalapak

Charts and visuals, only for subscribers

Org Chart maps out the people at the top of Asia’s most prominent tech companies. Who are the key decision-makers? How are the teams organized? What does it tell us about the company’s priorities? We continue this series with Indonesian ecommerce and SME enabler Bukalapak.

Founded in 2010 by Achmad Zaky, Nugroho Herucahyono, and Fajrin Rasyid, Bukalapak has seen its fair share of ups and downs.

In 2020, the company weathered a leadership reshuffle that saw its co-founders replaced by a brand new management team. A year later, newly minted CEO Rachmat Kaimuddin would bring the startup public in a landmark US$1.5 billion IPO, the biggest in the Indonesia Stock Exchange’s history to date.

However, Kaimuddin decided to leave his post for a government position earlier this year and passed the baton to the COO at the time, Willix Halim.

Bukalapak started as an ecommerce marketplace where buyers and sellers can transact with each other. Around 2017, its services were expanded to include Mitra Bukalapak, an app focused on small retailers or warungs; BukaPengadaan, a B2B procurement system; and BukaReksa and BukaEmas, two investment products.

After the IPO, Bukalapak ramped up its expansion further. Earlier this year, it penned a joint venture agreement with Indonesian conglomerate CT Group to build an e-grocery service called AlloFresh. The ecommerce major also joined the investment round of CT Group’s digital banking arm AlloBank.

Recently, Bukalapak put more investments into the gaming space. The company is set to hire its first CEO focusing on the industry.

With the additional offerings and stricter scrutiny after the IPO, Bukalapak needs to structure its management team properly.

Halim currently leads several divisions such as talent, product, engineering, data, and marketing. However, he has delegated responsibilities to other top executives.

Marketplace and fintech services, for example, are handled by Victor Putra Lesmana, who serves as the president of commerce and fintech. Meanwhile, the finance and legal teams are led by CFO Natalia Firmansyah.

The company’s president, Teddy Oetomo, currently leads Buka Investasi Bersama and the group’s strategic partnership efforts. Meanwhile, Howard Gani heads the management of Mitra Bukalapak and BukaPengadaan.
