Org Chart: The people leading GoTo Group

Charts and visuals, only for subscribers

Org Chart maps out the people at the top of Asia’s most prominent tech companies. Who are the key decision-makers? How are the teams organized? What does it tell us about the company’s priorities? We continue this series with Indonesian diversified company GoTo.

Back in 2009, William Tanuwijaya and Leontinus Alpha Edison founded Tokopedia, one of Indonesia’s earliest ecommerce platforms. The year after, the trio of Nadiem Makarim, Kevin Aluwi, and Michelangelo Moran founded a call center for motorcycle taxis and named it Gojek.

More than a decade later, much has changed.

The two companies have merged to form GoTo Group, which is set to raise 18 trillion rupiah (over US$1.2 billion) in a listing on the Indonesia Stock Exchange slated for April 11.

Over the years, Tanuwijaya has continued to helm Tokopedia. Gojek, on the other hand, has seen changes at the top.

In 2019, Aluwi replaced Makarim as Gojek’s boss when the latter resigned to become the Indonesian minister of education. Andre Soelistyo, who was Gojek’s president, became co-CEO.

Makarim’s departure followed that of Moran – the other co-founder – who left in 2016.

While Tanuwijaya remains CEO, Tokopedia saw its president, Patrick Cao, become GoTo Group’s president. Meanwhile, Aluwi continues to be at the head of Gojek, focusing on its ride-hailing and delivery businesses. Soelistyo now leads GoTo Group, while also overseeing GoTo Financial Group.

Jacky Lo, who serves as the group’s CFO, is a standout addition to GoTo. Lo has been in charge of finances at several Chinese companies, including OneConnect Smart Technology, a financial institution affiliated with China’s Ping An Insurance, and restaurant company Yum China.

The fact that GoTo Financial is a separate entity indicates the group’s emphasis on its financial services. After the Tokopedia-Gojek merger, GoPay bought over 20% of Bank Jago, a Jakarta-based digital bank, which allows enhanced financial services to Gojek users.

Here are a few more observations:

  • Kevin Mintaraga joined Tokopedia after the company acquired his startup, Bridestory, a platform for wedding-related businesses. He is now chief marketing officer at Tokopedia.
  • Aldi Haryopratomo was GoPay CEO for three years. He left early last year to become a commissioner for aquaculture startup eFishery. He is also now a commissioner for healthtech firm Halodoc.
  • Gojek COO Hans Patuwo chaired GoPay after Haryopratomo’s resignation and recently became GoTo’s head of payments and financial services.
  • Ryu Suliawan, Gojek’s head of merchants who founded the payment gateway service Midtrans, will reportedly lead GoTo’s B2B and merchant solutions. However, it’s unclear if the change is already effective.
  • After the GoTo merger, Melissa Siska Juminto was promoted from chief operating officer at Tokopedia to GoTo’s chief human resources officer.
  • Raditya Wibowo resigned from Gojek after spending three of his six years there managing its transport business.
  • As GoPlay is a separate entity, Edy reports to the company’s shareholders, which include Gojek.
