In the wide world of SaaS, horizontal SaaS is, by nature, larger than most other parts of that world.
Horizontal SaaS means that software is being targeted at a wide variety of businesses instead of for a specific niche or sector. Perhaps the best example is Salesforce, the customer relationship management platform used by private equity firms, non-profits, and everything in between.
As the industry map from Japanese VC firm One Capital shows, horizontal SaaS appears to be very much on the rise in Japan.
The map includes 357 companies, up from 307 the year before, showing the market’s increasing competitiveness.
And while the AI/automation category on the map only includes eight companies, that figure is 33% higher than in 2022. This highlights the extent to which the tech has captured imaginations in the last 12 months.
