Indonesia’s agritech player count trumps the rest of SEA

Charts and visuals, only for subscribers

Indonesia is Southeast Asia’s largest market for agritech startups, which is unsurprising as it is also the biggest in the region by area and population.

The agriculture industry, which contributed 13.3% to the country’s GDP in 2021, employs around 15% of the population.

Indonesia’s sheer size also means that fragmentation is a major problem for the country, giving rise to opportunities in supply chain connection, raw material marketplaces for farmers, and management tech to oversee crops and livestock. In fact, Southeast Asia’s most well-funded startup is eFishery, which has raised a total of US$106 million by providing these solutions.

Here’s a deep dive into the region’s agritech landscape. Based on Tech in Asia’s data, the industry is steadily growing, with deal values doubling within the past few years in what appears to be a consistent trend.
