ABOUT

Ethos, an insurtech startup based in the US, uses machine learning and data science to underwrite life insurance with no medical exams, blood tests, or complex paperwork required. It provides life insurance with several options in terms of coverage and term length, including level premiums.

The company has teamed up with Legal & General America and AAA Life to provide consumers with different types of insurance. It analyzes consumers’ personal information against all of its products in real time to provide each user with the best policy and price available.

Ethos used this pitch deck to raise US$60 million in its series C funding round.

Fundraising journey

  • June 2018: US$11.5 million in its series A funding round led by Sequoia Capital, with the participation of Stanford University, Downey Ventures, Durant Company, Smith Family Circle, and a credit facility from Silicon Valley Bank, among others.
  • October 2018: US$35 million in its series B financing round led by Accel Partners, along with the participation of GV (formerly known as Google Ventures) and Sequoia Capital, among others.
  • 2019: US$60 million in its series C funding round led by GV, with the participation of Sequoia Capital, Accel, and Goldman Sachs.
  • 2021: US$200 million in its series D financing round led by General Catalyst, along with the participation of Sequoia Capital, Accel, GV, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, and Glade Brook Capital Partners.
