As China ages, Southeast Asia’s youth boom puts it in the driving seat

China has been a powerhouse for Asia in the last couple of years. It’s still the largest country in Asia regarding GDP.

However, according to data from Asia Partners and the US Census International Database, Southeast Asia’s 15 to 35 year-old population is only starting to peak. China, in the meanwhile, saw its peak in 1998.

As that age group harbors the largest purchasing potential, that peak is set to foster great economic growth for the region through the next few years, or decades.
