We recently asked some Southeast Asian founders about how their startups were experimenting with generative AI. Of course, there are plenty of companies that are far beyond the experimentation stage with AI.
The 2023 AI Index Report by Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence features the above graphic, which lends some insight into the most common AI use cases.
The data was taken from McKinsey’s The State of AI in 2022—and a Half Decade in Review and a survey of 1,492 participants around the world.
Service operations optimization topped the list, with 24% of respondents saying that’s how their company is using the tech. Interestingly, predictive functions came at the bottom of the list at 14%, despite the fact that dystopian prediction software is commonly cited as a big danger of AI.
The data also points to a virtuous cycle within the AI world, as 20% of respondents said they were using AI to build new AI-based products.
