ABOUT

Carta is an equity management platform that helps companies and investors manage their cap tables, valuations, investments, and equity plans. It also provides financial reporting and tax tools for private companies and produces expense reports for auditors to go through.

Previously known as eShares, the California-based firm claims to help over 800,000 shareholders manage more than US$800 billion in equity.

The company used this pitch deck to raise US$80 million in funding in its 2018 series D financing round that was led by Meritech Capital.

Fundraising journey

• 2013: Carta raised US$1.8 million in seed funding from Draper VC, Expansion VC, k9 Ventures, Elefund, Subtraction Capital, Kima Ventures, Structure Capital, XG Ventures, Andy Palmer, and Scott Banister.
• January 2015: The company banked US$7 million in series A funding from Union Square Ventures, K9 Ventures, Spark Capital, and Haystack.
• August 2015: The equity management company landed US$17 million in series B funding from Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures.
• 2017: Carta raised US$42 million in series C funding led by Menlo Ventures and Social Capital.
• 2018: The US-based firm got US$80 million in a series D round led by Meritech Capital. Existing investors including Tribe Capital also participated in the funding round.
• 2019: It banked US$300 million in series E funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Goldman Sachs Principal Strategic Investments, Tribe Capital, Menlo Ventures, Meritech, Tiger Global Management, and Thrive Capital also backed the company in this financing round.
