Chances are you’ve used something GovTech has built or enabled without thinking much about what sits behind it.

In Singapore, we use Singpass to access digital services, verify our identity online, and prefill digital forms. During the Covid-19 pandemic, TraceTogether-only SafeEntry became mandatory to facilitate faster contact tracing.

As the city-state’s lead agency driving public sector digital transformation since 2016, GovTech has built and supported the apps, platforms, and shared tech infrastructure that public agencies across the nation use to deliver digital services.

But the tech landscape is changing rapidly. AI is moving from answering questions to taking action; data is becoming more deeply embedded in digital experiences; and cloud infrastructure and software engineering are opening up new ways to build and scale services – all while expectations around security, trust, and inclusion continue to rise.

For digital government, the question is no longer simply what can be digitized. It’s what comes next and what capabilities are needed to get there.

These conversations are also evolving at STACK, GovTech’s flagship tech conference. Launched in 2018, the event convenes public-sector leaders and the wider tech community to address emerging areas of tech. This year’s edition focuses on AI autonomy, data-enabled experiences, engineering velocity, the future of cloud, and digital safety and inclusion.

As GovTech marks its 10th year, we look at the questions that have shaped digital government over the past decade and how STACK has evolved alongside it.
