How AI is driving workforce reskilling
Charts and visuals, only for subscribers
It’s becoming old hat to say how quickly generative AI is changing our world, but it’s still revealing to see just how dramatically some employers see the tech altering their organizations.
According to a recent global survey by McKinsey & Company on AI, 38% of organizations believe that 20% or more of their employees will have to be reskilled within the next three years due to AI changing their roles.
As the chart shows, 20% of those surveyed think less than 5% of their staff will have to be reskilled, so it’s not all bad news for those who hate change.
While reskilling is certainly preferable to losing one’s job, as many people fear, the figure shows just how dramatically and rapidly many jobs could change due to innovations like ChatGPT and Bard.
The surveyors only asked respondents whose organizations have applied AI in at least one function. With just under 40% saying a significant share of their workforce will be reskilled, that indicates how effective many of these firms have found the tech to be.
