Vietnam’s All About Hacking in June: StartMeUp Hackday In Ho Chi Minh city

Vietnam is currently experiencing an onslaught of hackathons. With Startup Weekend Hanoi on June 16th, M:Lab’s competition last week, and M:Lab’s next event at the end of the month, and now StartMeUp Hackday is set to start on June 8 at 3pm and ending the evening of June 9.

In contrast to the mobile hackathon at M:Lab, Hackday is going for a broad spectrum of hackers. According to the press release, “Unlike previous Hackathon events in Saigon, Hackday opens its door to all creators regardless of their end products, be it a web app, a mobile app or a Chrome extension.”

The event, which is put on by events platform Keewi, has invited CTOs and senior developers from a handful of major tech companies including KMS, VNG, and NHN Line.

It’s clear that Vietnamese event organizers are very keen on getting practical results out of events over traditional presentation-oriented events, which seemed to be the theme last year. I think this is great news for developers, as well as a startup scene that needs to learn more about attacking problems in the consumer tech space.
