Singapore’s Ryde adds 3,000 cabs through Trans-Cab tie up

Singapore-based Ryde, a homegrown ride-hailing startup, announced it will be adding over 3,000 cabs to its platform through a collaboration with local taxi company Trans-Cab.

The firm claims it will be the first ride-hailer to allow a major taxi fleet to access private hire jobs, as well as social carpooling bookings.

With the partnership, which will kick off in October 1 this year, Ryde will have a fleet of more than 25,000 drivers on its platform in the city-state, which includes private cars, private hire cars, and taxis. It will also allow Trans-Cab drivers to access additional earning opportunities through bookings on its app.

Ryde currently operates on a flexible system, where drivers can pick jobs on their own time and choose rides that fit their driving preferences. Service fees are 9% for RydePool trips and 10% for RydeX bookings.

“This is another innovative step in ride-hailing where we facilitate Trans-Cab taxi drivers to pool passengers for social carpooling trips too,” said Ryde founder and CEO Terence Zou.

In 2017, the startup partnered with Singaporean taxi operator Comfort DelGro to allow Ryde users to book  the company’s taxis.

Earlier this year, Ryde secured an undisclosed amount of funding from local investment firm Nomad X. The company previously said in a statement that it looked to use the fresh injection of capital to expand its operations, hire and train more technical talent, and launch new features.

It also allotted part of the funding toward the enhancement of its “proprietary payment systems.”
