Senior hires often want to make their mark by implementing dramatic changes and giving feedback that will leave a lasting impact. But doing so while ignoring the context of past decisions and the feelings of the people who made those choices could backfire, says Isaac Tay, vice-president of product at cashback platform ShopBack. Improving awareness of these factors, however, would require teams to diligently document the thought processes and discussions that lead to decisions. Tay recommends appointing internal roles like “archaeologists, archivists, and librarians” to reduce the information gap.
