Hi readers,
We recently had an internal session on conducting interviews at Tech in Asia. My key takeaway was the importance of counter-questioning – whenever appropriate) – and asking open-ended questions to elicit deeper, higher-quality responses.
Counter-questioning isn’t easy, though, as it can divert the conversation away from the central points. You need presence of mind to stick to the interview agenda, especially when time is limited.
When I got the opportunity to interview Jungle Ventures’ founding partner, Amit Anand, I prepared by reading numerous articles about the VC to understand its thesis. However, during the discussion, I unintentionally delved too deeply into second-time entrepreneurs.
Thankfully, my colleague and co-interviewer Collin stepped in. He steered the conversation forward, raising a more relevant question about Southeast Asia’s tech ecosystem.
This kind of learning experience, which comes from trying new things is something we are excited to have more of in 2025.
On another note, this will be the last edition of the Sunday newsletter this year. The next one will be out on January 5, 2025. We wish you a happy and fulfilling holiday season!
