Paving the way for ecommerce 3.0 in Southeast Asia

In partnership with

Ecommerce is big in Southeast Asia, and it continues to grow.

A joint report by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company shows that regional ecommerce was worth US$38 billion in 2019: seven times that of 2015. Shopper numbers increased as well, with 150 million people buying things online in 2019, an increase from 49 million in 2015. The report also forecasts that ecommerce in Southeast Asia will be worth US$153 billion by 2025.

But these encouraging numbers don’t mean that everything is perfect. Merchants and customers still face regional commerce obstacles such as cross-border transaction costs, geo-based platforms that limit market reach, and a lack of accessibility for the region’s sizable unbanked population.

Realizing Southeast Asia’s ecommerce potential requires a whole new way of engaging with the industry. And QuuBe, Qoo10’s blockchain-based marketplace, is part of a growing movement to uncover the solutions to these problems.
