Uniknya: An Indonesian Start-up That Brings You Unique Content

While most startups focus on lifestyle, here’s one that chose a different path by developing a news and information catalogue website. The name Uniknya might not be as popular or well-known as some of the internet start-ups in Indonesia. But its unique content proves very attractive to its visitors.
The website was officially launched on May 1st, after some brief preparation a month earlier. “Not wanting to waste more time, we decided to release the final version to public,” said Galih Pakuan, the chief editor of Uniknya, in a messenger chat this afternoon. There was no ceremony surrounding its launch, just a simple announcement on Facebook and Twitter about its presence.
Although Uniknya is not the first news and information catalogue website in the country, its the first one that’s run professionally. The contents mainly consist of various short-form Internet content, often presented in list format. For example, the ‘Five Most Wanted Gadgets,’ ‘Five UFO Organisations in America,’ and ‘Five Controversies About Organic Food.’ In addition, the website also adds unique photos under certain categories like ‘Unique Discovery in The World,’ or ‘Unique Photos of Hollywood Celebrities Without Make Up.’
Presentation of such content along with other brief news is apparently attracting many visitors to the site. According to Galih, the traffic is increasing 100 percent per month with more than 2000 unique visitors per day. The website also established cooperation with Trans 7, a national television network, to broadcast its content.
With the rapid growth of local startups in the country, Uniknya certainly has its own uniqueness. The website proves that there are still a lot of spaces to be filled in the industry. As long as Uniknya can differentiate from others, it will continue to grow.
