In brief: Umitron goes fishing in Peruโs Lake Titicaca with $2m funding
Umitron, in cooperation with Abaco and its subsidiary Piscis, has been approved for US$2 million project funding to improve aquaculture productivity in Lake Titicaca, Peru. IDB Lab, the Inter-American Development Bank Groupโs (IDB) innovation arm, is financing the project to improve the local trout farming industryโs economic and environmental sustainability.

Umitron is a Japan- and Singapore-based aquaculture startup that has developed tech designed to help fish farmers monitor their stock.
This year, it raised a total of US$11 million in seed funding from investors including the government-linked Innovation Network Corporation of Japan and VC firms D4V and Mirai Creation Fund.
Umitron was the winner of the Tech in Asia Tokyo 2017 Arena pitching contest.
