Twitter Has 24 Billion Search Queries Per Month

SearchSearch engine has taken a new form, where results are shown in nuggets of information kept within 140 characters each. Yes, that’s Twitter!

According to its co-founder, Biz Stone, the micro-blogging site has reached over 800 million search queries. That’s over 24 billion searches per month, more than Bing (4.1 billion) and Yahoo (9.4 billion) combined.

    From Fast Company:

“While Stone’s company is still a long way off from Google, which supports around 88 billion search queries per month, Twitter is quickly catching up. Since last April, Twitter searches are up 33%. To put that in perspective, a study by Nielsen last year concluded that Bing was the fastest-growing search engine in the U.S. after it ballooned over 22%. Now it seems Twitter has taken the title.”

    Promoted Tweets

This piece of news also helps to explain Twitter’s monetization plan. Promoted Tweets only appear in the search results page as Twitter relentlessly pursuits the fine balance between ad relevancy and profitability. It’s resonance score metrics, too, has also contributed to its early success. Given its massive amount of search queries, we’re pretty sure advertisers are getting quality impressions in quantity.
