#newtwitterceo. Evan Williams (aka @ev) stepped down as CEO. It’s a positive news for the twitter team.
In a blog post written by Williams himself, he identified Dick Costolo as a better candidate to lead the team.
“When I insisted on bringing Dick into the COO role a year ago, I got a lot of questions from my board. But I knew Dick would be a strong complement to me, and this has proven to be the case. During his year at Twitter, he has been a critical leader in devising and executing our revenue efforts (he certainly did), while simultaneously and effectively making the trains run on time in the office…”
Evan’s decision to voluntarily step down as CEO for Dick Costolo to take over the helm is highly admirable. It’s a demotion in terms of status but clearly, he is putting the team ahead of himself. No additional hiring was made but the team is stronger through this simple rearrangement.
Not only did the team get stronger, Williams also gets to realize his passion – product strategizing.
Keep going, Team Twitter.
