Traditional Chinese and Korean readers rejoice, because action role-playing game Toukiden Kiwami will be launched in your languages on October 30 for PS Vita and PSP. This will be the first time that Toukiden has been translated into these languages.
Toukiden: Age of Demons, is a Monster Hunter-style hunting game that has sold an impressive 50 million units worldwide. Tecmo Koei, keen to capitalise on this success, is launching Toukiden Kiwami as a sequel later this year. Calling Toukiden Kiwami a sequel is optimistic, as it includes the full original game, some extra story content, and other extras, so it seems more like a definitive edition than a sequel. However the developer assures fans that the “sequel” will address the brevity of the first, and increase the story’s depth, both of which were common complaints from fans.

Toukiden: Kiwami’s extra content includes new characters, weapons, and an enhanced multiplayer mode with new co-operative ultimate attack. There’s also “Infinity Mode”, a survival mode where players last as long as possible against the demonic horde. Overall it looks like Toukiden Kiwami addresses the main problems people had with the original game, whilst adding a whole load of new content. For Asian gamers who never got a chance to play the original, this should fill that Monster Hunter shaped gap in your Sony device.
As well as a new game, the artists behind Toukiden’s animation sequences are now working on a full-length anime series based around characters and plot-points from Toukiden Kisami. It was also mentioned that the developer would love to bring the title to Playstation 3, and Playstation 4, something which western gamers have been asking for, but there’s no official plans at this time. It seems like Toukiden’s popularity is growing and Tecmo Koei is clearly making a push for the the series to take the place of Monster Hunter on the Playstation platform.
