It may have been the last day of phase two of the The International 2014 (TI4) playoffs, but there are no breaks on this hype train.
Vici Gaming (VG) has successfully held onto the top position and is guaranteed a spot in the upper bracket at the main event. Joining them in the main event is Evil Geniuses (EG), which successfully eliminated last year’s champion Team Alliance. With last year’s champions not being able to defend their title, will the previous two champions reclaim what once was theirs or will TI4’s Aegis be claimed by someone else?
But before we look at the next phases, let’s first take a look at the final standings:
While there were teams that had the same record of 8-7, no tie-breakers were played. Based on the results from the group stage, Valve had decided on Natus Vincere (Na’Vi) for fifth, Cloud 9 (C9) for sixth, Team Liquid for seventh, and Team Titan for eighth. On the other hand, a tie-breaker was held for teams with the same record of 7-8 resulting to the elimination of Mousesports with Team Newbee and LGD finishing ninth and tenth.
Although the middle eight teams are not eliminated from the tournament, they can’t relax just yet, as TI4 enters the third and final phase of the play-offs. The eight teams will be divided into two brackets where two more teams will fall and six teams will join VG and EG in the main event at the Key Arena. Here is the format for the playoffs’ final phase, which will start tomorrow:
